X-Windows
When X-windows starts up, it looks for .xinitrc in your home directory
to tell it what to do. (To see the files starting with a period, type
ls -a.) If you don't have such a file it uses the system
default file which is /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc. You can copy this file
to your home directory and name it .xinitrc if you want to modify it.
FVWM
Fvwm (F? virtual window manager) help to configure your X-windows
environment. If you don't have a .fvwmrc file in your home directory,
the system default file is /etc/X11/fvwm/system.fvwmrc.
