Three Tenure-Track Faculty Positions in Physics - Stony Brook University
The Department of Physics and Astronomy at Stony Brook University seeks to hire three tenure-track assistant professors. It is expected that the appointments will begin in Fall 2007.
For all its searches the department is especially interested in recruiting highly qualified women and minority candidates at early stages in their careers and is sensitive to the issues of dual careers. Stony Brook faculty and students conduct experimental and theoretical research in a broad range of topics in physics and astronomy both in facilities on our campus and at laboratories around the world. Each successful candidate will have a Ph.D. degree in physics and relevant postdoctoral experience and publications. S/he will be expected to carry out an independent research program and to attract federal grant support for it. S/he will contribute to the teaching activities in the department at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
- One appointment will be in theoretical nuclear or theoretical heavy ion physics. It is expected to be joint with the RIKEN BNL Research Center for five years.
- One appointment will be in experimental condensed matter physics focused on mesoscopic and nanoscale structures and devices, possibly benefiting from existing nanofabrication facilities.
- One appointment will be in collider-based high energy physics focused on experiments to be carried out with the ATLAS detector at the CERN Large Hadron Collider.
The application process for all three positions will be conducted electronically.
Interested candidates should go to the web page http://www.physics.sunysb.edu/Physics/AsstProfSearches/ and follow the link relevant to the desired one of the three positions listed above. Instructions are given there for uploading all application materials as pdf files to a secure web site.
By December 13, 2006 each candidate should have submitted all application materials electronically, including:the names, institutions, and email addresses for five referees. The candidate should also have arranged for each of these five referees to submit letters electronically.
Each candidate will be notified by email when his/her application file is begun and again when it is complete. For further information or for alternative submission, please email Pam Burris. Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.Postdoctoral Associate in Theoretical Nuclear Physics
The Nuclear Theory Group at Stony Brook will have a postdoc opening for the spring of 2007. The ideal candidate should work in the field of strong interactions at high energies, temperatures and/or baryon densities, or other QCD-related areas. We particularly appreciate an interest in the phenomenology of the experimental heavy ion programs, but we encourage also well-qualified candidates in nearby fields to apply. Applications will be considered until the position is filled, but we expect to make our short list by the end of the 2006.
Interested applicants should send a curriculum vitae, list of publications, and a brief description of their research interest to:
