History
The Nuclear Theory Group was founded by Gerry Brown in the 1960's when he (together with Prof.C.N.Yang) moved to Stony Brook from Princeton. Its former members are A. Arima (former president of RIKEN and cabinet minister of Japan) and A. Jackson (now at Niels Bohr Institute, Copenhagen, Denmark). J. Lattimer, M.Prakash (now in Ohio State), T. Schafer (now in U. of North Carolina), R. Rapp (now in Taxes AM) and Urs Wiedemann (now at CERN TH) The Center for Nuclear Theory was created in 1993, with the advent of Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) project at Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL). It is a research unit, with E. Shuryak as a director, who reports to the Dean of Arts and Sciences. |
